New & Improved Party Trick

West no longer needs outside help to perform Aunt Andi's trick. Between this and the recent waving development, his cuteness stock has gone through the roof!

Catching Waves

Unfortunately, this is not a post about surfing. West learned to wave Friday and I have finally managed to "catch" this wave on video for your viewing pleasure. West sure is missing his Daddy and I think he has been waving at him way over in Boston.

West went on his second trip to Mexico yesterday and he brought back a new souvenir: maracas! West is a maraca maniac. He has had some sweet moments with them ...
Many, many active moments with them ...

A few peaceful moments with them ...

And, of course, a couple of crazy moments with them. Viva la revolucion!

Clap Happy

It is getting harder and harder to keep up with West. He is still really into clapping and gives a nice, representative sample at the end of this video. As you can see, he has some new faces in his cuteness repertoire and his height gives him a distinct advantage over his parents. And he is babbling up a storm but no recognizable words yet!

Daddy & Me

Aaron got out of work early (!!!) today and that meant lots of daddy time and Daddy/West photo opportunities.

Party Trick

Aunt Andi taught West this trick way back when she was his caregiver for three brief, glorious weeks. It continues to crack us up but then I suppose we are easily entertained.

Note the flowered socks.

Dancing Queen

It's just a video wonderland over here lately! West has started treating us to some pretty sick dance moves over the last couple of weeks - inspired, it seems, by the new season of So You Think You Can Dance. French rap seems to be a particular fave of his.

Goodnight Kittens

It seems that West is a fan of the kitty cats. Out of the blue, he started pointing at the kittens in Goodnight Moon. It's the first time he has ever pointed at anything (ever!!!) and he looks for the kittens on every page. Pages without kitty cats result in screaming and frantic page-turning in search of something feline.

Oh well, at least he comes by it honestly.

Stand and Deliver

On film, that is. West just treated me (and our video camera) to a command performance of his new hands-free standing ability. The footage is terrible but it gives you the goods in the end. All the more impressive is that fact that he never stops eating his stalk of asparagus. Quite the multi-tasker!

A Close Encounter of the Kitty Kind

Mr. Messy

'Nuff said. Needless to say, this was not a good night for Aaron to work late.
A post-clean-up shot.

Look Ma, No Hands!

West decided that today was as good a day as any to stand on his own. He can do it for several minutes and has terrific balance. A future surfer, perhaps?

Back With Another One of Those Block-Rockin' Beats

I think we might have a pint-sized beatboxer on our hands.

Big Sur

For those of you who are not familiar with Big Sur, it looks like this.

And this ...

No, those are not other people's photos of exotic places that I stole from the internet. I really took those pictures and you could have too if you were there. It's a beautiful place, teeming with flowers and wildlife.

Speaking of flowers ...

West went on his first hikes this weekend. I think it's safe to say that he was a big fan. Here is the proof:

West only had two modes for hiking: happy and asleep.

West slept through this:

And this:

And this:
And, if you can believe it, this:
But not this!
When he was awake he was fascinated.
And cute, of course.
Maybe he was tired from all of that Daddy time.
I know Aaron was!

I think the sunscreen application was his favorite part. Once again, he slept through most of it.

Happy Mother's Day!

The three of us had a grand time in Big Sur. We learned that West loves hiking, is a true sport when it comes to long stretches in his car seat, and is an absolute fiend for cherries. Many, many more pics and details to come.
