A Four Hour Tour

Our big ticket adventure in Monterey was a whale-watching trip. West loved it and saw tons of "big, giant whales" - humpbacks and blues and even a sei whale, of which there are apparently only 65 on the West Coast. The deckhand dressed West up like something out of the Ancient Mariner (an alternate title for this post) and, after a rough start, he got into the whaling/sea lioning/ottering/pelicaning/puffining/dolphining spirit.

3-2-1 Blast Off!

We all piled in the car this past weekend and headed south for Aaron's retreat in Monterey. One of the highlights was the pool. Another favorite was the gigantic bowl of strawberries at breakfast but this post is about the pool.

School Daze

Today was West's first day of preschool!!! How many exclamation points can we use????!!! He did great, won the heart of his teacher, and played his heart out out, with minimal crying and an awesome 2 hour nap. He came home covered in paint and glitter, which to me sounds just about right.

Beach Boys

West's dearest, bestest friend Robert lives out near Ocean Beach and was kind enough to host us today for a play date.  The kids had a blast together, running and digging and splashing and laughing and drinking up the beautiful weather. Oh, and getting absolutely covered in sand!

You may have noticed a change in the blog. From now on, whenever a post contains more than 3 or so photos, we'll feature one at the top and the rest of the story can be found after the jump (blogspeak for click on the "Read more" link to view the entire post). I've also changed things a bit to make it easier for readers to comment - no more required gmail account or silly letters and numbers to enter into a box. So let me know what you think!

A Very Full Day

West had a lot of adventures last Saturday and I happened to remember to grab the camera so you know what that means: blog post! We spent the morning at the Bay Area Discovery Museum and West made sure we got our money's worth by squeezing every last bit of stimulation out of those exhibits and activities. The kid is relentless when it comes to playing.
